Description
ChoreoProject Award is an event created to demonstrate the volume, breadth, and diversity of professional "Dance Making" that takes place in our region and particularly in the South Bay. It also gives the opportunity, at no cost to the choreographer, to have their works produced and performed in an intimate setting. This year's event will be the largest choreographic showcase ChoreoProject Award has presented since its inception in 2004. 17 choreographers and 75 dancers from around the Bay Area will participate in three performances February 25-26 in the Dance Theatre at San Jose State University where sjDANCEco is in residence.Joining sjDANCEco's award winning Artistic Director Maria Basile and company choreographers Dominic Duong, Nhan Ho and Marte Madera are Carol Abohatab, Lauren Baines, Renee Beauvais, Luis Canales, Kim T. Davis, Michelle Dirck, Jazon Escultura, Sheena Hagy, Tawnya Kuzia, Karin Cabello-Moriarty, Dalia Rawson, Anandha Ray and Yong Yao. Aside from sjDANCEco choreographers, all the other works on the program were chosen through an audition process by the Artistic Directors in December.
Two Awards will be given; the "Audience Choice Award" and the "sjDANCEco Award." This year for the first time the works will be adjudicated by a panel of three distinguished Dance Artists: Joan Lazarus, Mark Foehringer and Ken Greer. They will give feedback to the choreographers in a Forum following the Friday evening performance and will also choose the recipient of the 2011 sjDANCEco Award.
