Downtown San Jose isn’t exactly a hot spot for Indian restaurants, particularly those with a bent toward southern Indian cuisine. Luckily, we do have Dosa & Curry, a casual, inexpensive restaurant on Fourth Street, across from San Jose State University..
For an unusual first date or a fun place to take visitors in Santa Clara, Shabuway fits the bill nicely. The restaurant is chic but casual, and the wait staff is friendly and very attentive, but the main reason to try Shabuway is its distinctive style of serving food.
The stein is still half full, not half empty, as Oktoberfest continues in the valley. The big celebration this weekend takes place Saturday-Sunday (Oct. 13-14) in downtown Cambpell with beer (of course) as well as German food, arts and crafts booths, and a long roster of live music acts.
With 12 changing and rotating taps plus 80-100 bottled beers that can be enjoyed onsite or purchased to go, you won’t find any macro beers here. In addition to good beer, Wine Affairs offers a tasty tapas menu and, of course, an extensive wine list.
As far as ambience goes, Falafel Stop is a simple, comfortable, no-frills walk-up stand with mostly outdoor seating. The small kitchen is visible to anyone placing an order. You can even watch as they pour the falafel flour into a grinder to form the falafel balls before deep frying them.
