Description
Beginning Modern DanceThis beginning modern class is designed for students who either have never taken a modern dance class before or are picking dance up again. The class focuses on exploring each dancer’s individual and spatial awareness, range in qualities, and ability to move in unexpected ways. Rather than learning a rigid technique, students will be supported in feeling the movement in their own bodies, with special attention to musicality, gravity, and fluidity through quirky floor work, center exercises, and combinations.

About the Instructor
Originally from San Jose, Eric Garcia found his way into the SF dance scene as a performing arts student at the University of San Francisco. He is the Co-Artistic Director of detour dance, a bay area-based contemporary dance company, and is currently interning with Fresh Meat Productions and Dancer’s Group. Eric is always looking for ways to create novel work through finding quirk in the mundane; his curiosity in dissecting everyday interactions is the catalyst for his peculiar choreography.
