Mayor Chuck Reed knows a thing or two about dealing with deficits, which may be why a South Bay consortium of local businesses has invited him to chime in on the CalTrain problem. Faced with a $30 million deficit, the rail line may have to cut services so that trains only operate during commuter rush hours. That would mean no midday service and no service on weekends.

Hundreds of riders got on the Freedom Train yesterday to commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr.‘s famous march. The 27th annual commemorative ride was hosted by the Martin Luther King Jr. Association of Santa Clara. Participants included people of all ages, from those who remember Martin Luther King Jr. and the changes he brought to this country, to their children and grandchildren, who have grown up in a better, more equal America.

Eighteen months after Jeanine Sanchez Harms disappeared in 2001, Metro Silicon Valley published an investigation that named Maurice Xavier Nasmeh as a likely suspect in the murder of Harms. With money scarce and the future of the San Jose Redevelopment Agency hanging by a thread, the city has decided to sell off some of its properties to raise money for a new stadium for a transplanted Oakland A’s team. It may even have a buyer—none other than Oakland A’s owner Lew Wolff. Many of the properties for sale are adjacent to the Fairmont Hotel, which Wolff also owns.

Intel Profits up 48 Percent for Fourth Quarter

On Thursday Intel reported a net fourth quarter income of $3.4 billion, which translated into 59 cents per share. Total revenues for the quarter were $11.5 billion, while annual revenues for 2010 were $43.6 billion. Share prices were up $2.05 over the previous year, making 2010 the most profitable year in the company’s history.
