Chief Development Officer Paul Krutko announced his resignation, effective today, in an email to his department.Krutko has been with the city for eight years, and has several important accomplishments under his belt. He oversaw the purchase of 75 acres to expand Mineta Airport, and he negotiated with eBay to ensure that they stay in the city and expand their presence in San Jose. Kim Walesh will serve as Interim Chief Development Officer.

Proposition 23 was defeated last night, and California will continue on its path to cut greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2020. Some Silicon Valley companies are already taking giant steps forward, but none of them has gone quite as far as Intel. Tuition Hike Considered for SJSU

Tuition Hike Considered for SJSU

Students at San Jose State University and other CSU schools may find themselves paying more tuition this spring semester. CSU Chancellor Charles Reed has proposed a 5 percent hike for the coming semester, followed by a 10 percent tuition hike this fall.  If approved the hike, it will be the fourth time that tuition has gone up in the CSU system since 2007.

City Council Votes Against Pension Check Bonuses

The San Jose City Council voted 4-7 to postpone the payment of bonus checks to retirees for eight months.: The current pension system is $2 billion in the hole and unsustainable as is, warned City Auditor Sharon Erickson. Mayor Chuck Reed agreed, warning that if the city does not do something about pension costs, it will run out of money in 17 years.

Neighbors had frequently complained to the police about high stakes gambling taking part in Hillview Park in East San Jose. Yesterday, the SJPD responded.  Three men were arrested. One was charged with evading arrest and two were charged withe possession of marijuana for sale. All three were charged with misdemeanor gambling.

Twelve-year-old is seventh-grader Alex Miller is $3,000 richer thanks to a bug he found in browser Firefox by Mozilla. The University Prep Academy student spent about an hour and a half every day for ten days scanning Firefox for bugs and hoping to win the bounty.
