Before the big game this weekend, the Bay Area has another “W” to look forward to courtesy of San Jose’s Jon Fitch (24-4-1 MMA, 14-2-1 UFC). As part of the UFC 156 card, Fitch will fight Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt Damian Maia (17-4 MMA, 11-4 UFC).

After six years in the business, San Jose-based mixed martial arts promotion company Strikeforce is saying farewell to the octagon on January 12. In 2006, Strikeforce made its MMA debut at a sold out HP Pavilion, where San Jose’s own Frank “The Legend” Shamrock made quick work of legendary Gracie family member, Ceaser Gracie.

Saturday night marked an impressive return to the Octagon for San Jose’s Mike “Quick” Swick at The Staples Center in Los Angeles. After a two-year break, due to injury, Swick opened the “UFC on FOX 4”s live televised broadcast in a welter-weight bout against hard hitting DaMarques “Darkness” Johnson (15-11).
After being sidelined by a pair of losses, followed by a few unexpected injuries, San Jose-based mixed martial arts fighter Mike “Quick” Swick returns to the Octogon for a televised bout this Saturday.
