Alternative Theater Ensemble performs in storefronts along the downtown district of San Rafael. An artist-driven company, we focus on local artists, new works, and young playwrights. Our company was modeled after the Tony-Award-winning Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago, and other local and national ensemble-driven companies. We believe that theater should play a crucial role in its community, which is why we choose to perform in non-traditional venues in the heart of San Rafael's downtown.
