About
AFS-USA (formerly the American Field Service), a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, has been a leader in international exchange for over 65 years. AFS-USA offers opportunities for intercultural experience through studying abroad, hosting a student, and volunteering in your local community.
AFS is a worldwide network of independent, nonprofit organizations, each with a network of volunteers and a professionally staffed office. The network exchanges almost 13,000 individuals worldwide each year. Through AFS-USA, high school students and graduates from the US can study abroad for a summer, semester, year or short-term program on one of 120+ programs across the globe.
Each year, AFS-USA hosts 2,300 international high school students who come to the US to live with host families, study in high schools, and participate in the local community. Families interested in hosting an exchange student in California or throughout the US can do so for a semester, year, or 6-12 weeks.
