Description
Rare Device and The Working Proof are proud to present Aesopica, a group art show centered around Aesop's Fables, the classic collection of children's stories. The show runs November 19 through January 9 in the Rare Device project space; a reception for the artists will be held on November 19 from 7-9pm.Each artist in Aesopica chose a different fable to illustrate. Participating artists include Andrea D'Aquino, Samantha Hahn, Caitlin Keegan, Sol Linero, OSoo, Danna Ray, Amy Ruppel, Catherine Ryan, Lisa Solomon, Yasmine Surovec, Julianna Swaney, and Gretchen Wagoner.
Both original artwork and prints will be available, as well as a show catalog printed by Blurb. Aesopica was inspired by the work that 826 National does in helping kids and teenagers with expository and creative writing skills. 15% of the gross proceeds from the show will be donated to the local chapter of 826 National, 826 Valencia.
The show is curated by The Working Proof (theworkingproof.com), an online print gallery and shop with the mission of promoting both art and social responsibility through a series of limited-edition prints. 15% of the gross sale of each print is donated to the charity of the artist's choice, creating a product with not just aesthetic, but social value. The intent of The Working Proof is to promote emerging artists and a variety of charities, and to expose them to new supporters through the appreciation of art and creativity. The Working Proof releases a new print once a week, on Tuesdays at 1:30pm, EST.
Rare Device is a store and gallery that features functional experiments and original ideas in art, design, craft and fabrication. Owners Rena Tom and Lisa Congdon constantly seek out objects that are beautiful, evocative, well constructed and thoughtful. We are pleased to bring to our San Francisco store an ever-growing roster of local, national and international artists and designers for a truly "rare" experience.
This show is generously sponsored in part by Blurb.com and IO Labs.
