About
Acrisia are one of few bands who genuinely problematize categorization. Most broadly recognized as “metal” through their incurable commitment to the musical aesthetics of weight, the trio maneuvers freely within a genre, that along with other bands, they are helping to expand. Organic and unrestrained, often quite dark and at other times equally inviting – it is the soundtrack of the apocalypse’s reluctant but comfortable spectator. This effect is organized by something internal to its producers, not through the desire for a secure fit within a given niche. Increasingly expanding outside the metal genre, Acrisia continues to attract listeners not typically open to heavy music, all agreeing the band is captivating and intense.
Comprised of Cory Gehrich (guitar, vocals), Andrew Lincoln (bass, vocals) and Barret Baumgart (drums), Acrisia formed loosely in San Diego, California, in the year 2000 while the band members were in 7th grade under the title, The Dekoys. The band evolved throughout the bands high school years from an alternative/punk outfit to its present stage of development. In 2003 Acrisia recorded the 10 track, Festering and in 2004 the EP, Sadist Philanthropist (both self-released). Acrisia has shared various stages throughout Southern California with such bands as, Avenged Sevenfold, As I Lay Dying, Eighteen Visions, Ill Nino, The Casualties, The Virus and many other worthless acts. In the summer of 2005, the band was expected to break up as its members graduated high school and dispersed to pursue further work and education. However, despite time and distance, the band maintained its bond and has since recorded a new seven-track self-titled album. In the fall of 2006 Acrisia relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area where the members currently reside, writing new music and working and studying outside the band.
