Abstract Expressionist Larry Harden Opens His Work to the Raw California Coastline Davenport, Growing Artist Community, Draws Visitors for Open Studios Tour 2009
DAVENPORT, CA—(Sept. 29, 2009) In the wide open space of Larry Harden’s Davenport studio light streams in through windows and skylights illuminating his lifelong encounter with abstract expressionism.
It is the second year he has been invited to join the popular Santa Cruz Open Studios Tour welcoming people into his creative lair where every wall is home to striking images, color and form. There are easels with paintings still wet with thick strokes of paint and shelves of raw line drawings, stacks of visual journals, and a wall of photographs capturing the fullness of a single transient moment. A third generation abstract expressionist, Harden has won numerous commendations for his work.
“I am searching for that transcendence,” says Harden who has exhibited his work throughout the country and spent much of the last 18 years teaching art and working in campus ministry at Bellarmine College Prep in San Jose. “It is a spiritual moment. When I paint, I try to follow my artistic conscience. I try to put things together, the poetic and the beautiful.
