San Jose Jazz provides live music for all seasons, whether it be Summer Jazz Fest or the new Holiday Concert Series beginning this month.

San Jose Jazz’s winter music program will feature not only fresh local faces, but also internationally renowned artists like Jason Marsalis, who the Chicago Tribune praised as “a first-rate musician-bandleader in his own right.” Local groups performing include the SJZ High School All Stars Big Band, conducted by Grammy Award winner Dr. Aaron Lington. Also, the SJZ Summer Jazz Camp All Stars and Progressions, an education program of elementary students and faculty, will perform at various locations around San Jose.

Every Thursday beginning Dec. 1, Plaza de Cesar Chavez will become a holiday sensation complete with Christmas in the Park and live music curated by San Jose Jazz. “2016 has been a busy year for San Jose Jazz and we keep that pace going with these nine shows for the holidays,” said Brendan Rawson, executive director of San Jose Jazz.

A new installation, the San Jose Jazz Streetcar, will also make its debut at Christmas in the Park, playing traditional sounds of New Orleans holiday music featuring jazz band characters.

Another musical feature this holiday are Season of Hope performances taking place at St. Joseph’s Basilica. A variety of groups will perform in the beautiful church every night at 7:30pm from Dec. 13-23. Groups will range from Opera San Jose to the San Jose Youth Chamber Orchestra.

“San Jose Jazz is thrilled to collaborate with several great partners for these holiday shows,” Rawson said. “Christmas in the Park, Saint Joseph’s Basilica, and Cafe Pink House in Saratoga each provide a distinct experience for enjoying jazz this holiday season.”

Tickets for Jason Marsalis can be purchased online now. All other events are free to attend.
