San Jose is famous for many things: technology, diversity and horrible traffic. In 2013, the traffic-analysis firm INRIX named San Jose the seventh worst U.S. metro for automobile congestion. Economic growth and high employment rates all play a key part in adding to the city’s gridlock.
BikeShare is looking to combat these problems by expanding the number of available public bike stations throughout the Bay Area. The company is making it their mission to expand from 700 bikes to 7,000 in the next two years. These bikes will be stationed at posts throughout San Francisco, the East Bay and San Jose.
San Jose alone is expected to add 1,000 new bicycles to their fleet, while San Francisco looks to gain 4,500. Although there are already proposed expansion sites, BikeShare is encouraging those with placement suggestions to share them at various workshops taking place. San Jose will hold a workshop on July 6. Suggestions are also accepted online through the BikeShare website.
