To mark the Fourth of July, Vice President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill, sent their first tweet: “VP & Dr. B hope you take time to think about our troops & military families this Independence Day, Happy 4th from OVP!”
It was about time. In an age where just about anyone who’s anyone is on Twitter, the Vice President needed to make the leap as well.
Of course, Biden has a lot of catching up to do. The White House is a frequent twitterer with 2.237 million followers. The Office of the Vice President has significantly fewer—just under 11,000. Then again, he also has just one tweet, as opposed to the thousands sent out by the White House.
Biden’s office has promised to use the account to keep citizens informed of everything taking place in the Vice President’s office. Admittedly, it was a holiday weekend, but as the debt ceiling negotiations move forward, everyone can hope to see more tweets coming from @VP.
