Yesterday, SanJose.com posted about a successful fundraiser on behalf of Bryan Stow, the local paramedic who was beaten unconscious at Dodgers Stadium last week for wearing a Giants shirt. What we didn’t know then was how successful the fundraiser really was.
Initially it was reported that over 2,500 people showed up at the event, which included a barbecue, bake sale and silent auction. Now Gil Glass, a General Manager at American Medical Responses and one of the event’s organizers, says that between three and four thousand people showed up. “It was just an amazing outpouring from the community,” he said. “Everyone was just incredibly blown away by the show of support.”
The total amount raised was a staggering $140,000. Money came from the sale of food and autographed items donated not only by the Giants, but also by the San Jose Sharks. Just one local pizza chain, Pizza My Heart, donated $20,000 to the Bryan Stow Fund at the event.
Stow is still in an induced coma, though he is reported to be in stable condition. With the money from Thursday’s event and more expected to be raised at Monday’s Giants game, at least they have one less thing to worry about.
