Lance Corporal Harry Lew, 21, of Santa Clara, died in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan, “while supporting combat operations.” According to the Defense Department, an investigation is underway into the precise cause of his death.
The Santa Clara High graduate enlisted in the Marines in 2009 and was sent to Afghanistan with the III Marine Expeditionary Force five months ago. According to his Facebook page, he was engaged and scheduled to return home in August.
Friends and teachers remember Lew as a smiling student who loved to break dance, sing, and entertain his friends. His friends are using his Facebook page as a tribute to him, and a number of YouTube videos in his memory have popped up online.
