With Facebook now valued at $85 billion, the company is looking for ways to polish its corporate image, especially in places like Washington, D.C.

Mark Zuckerberg is certainly a charming spokesperson, but there is something to be said about having a spokesperson who looks better in a suit and tie than flip flops and a hoodie. One possibility is the recently unemployed Robert Gibbs, who just stepped down from the position of White House Press Secretary. He has the street cred, and he certainly has the connections in Washington, where Facebook is expanding its lobbying efforts, especially with the Federal Trade Commission, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, and the Defense Intelligence Agency. Gibbs knows all about intelligence, too.

Insiders say that talks about a lucrative deal with Gibbs are already underway, and that he could find himself with a substantial salary and pre-IPO shares. Gibbs has also said that he hopes to eventually make his way into the private sector, but that he plans to work on President Obama’s reelection campaign first.

That seems to be one of the major issues impeding Gibbs’s acceptance of the Facebook offer, and the company is hoping that he will reconsider. There are also other offerings available, including a possible chairmanship at the DNC. Nevertheless, a chance to get a foot in at one of the fastest growing companies in the world, now valued at $85 billion, is certainly tempting.
