The Farm decided to stay in-house Thursday by hiring David Shaw to be Stanford’s next football coach. Shaw, who served as offensive coordinator the past two seasons for the Cardinal this past season, takes over a loaded squad, highlighted by Heisman favorite Andrew Luck.
There was some speculation that Stanford would look to land a big name in the wake of Jim Harbaugh leaving Palo Alto to become coach of the San Francisco 49ers, but athletic director Bob Bowlsby felt Shaw was a perfect fit.
“David Shaw is exactly the right person to lead our football program at this time,” he said in a statement. “David has the experience, intellect, coaching skills and organizational abilities to be a tremendous head coach. He understands and embraces the combination of world class academics and world class athletics that is required at Stanford.”
