It’s been a while since Thomas Steyer graduated from Stanford, but he is still grateful to his old alma mater. The billionaire private equity fund manager and his wife Kat Taylor, also a Stanford alum, just announced a $7 million gift to the school to establish the Steyer-Taylor Center for Energy Policy and Finance. The new institution will be dedicated to the study and development of new technologies for producing clean energy.

This is the couple’s second major gift to the university, and both times they focused on clean energy. In 2008 they donated $40 million to establish the TomKat Center for Sustainable Energy.
