Thousands of people braved the nippy autumn weather and ominous threats of rain by weather watchers to attend Sunday’s Holiday Parade in downtown San Jose. It was all they expected and more. There were 19 bands, 14 floats, and ten enormous balloons, all proceeding to the beat of “Toys, Treasures, and Traditions.” It was the West Coast’s answer to Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.

But without the Macy’s. This year’s parade may have been the twenty-ninth of its kind, but some city officials worry that it may be the last, unless a corporate sponsor or sponsors can be found for next year’s event. Could this be the last year that Scooby Doo soars over the city, chasing that irksome Cat in the Hat? Will Big Bird ever take flight again? Will this be Yogi Bear’s last chance to make a comeback? Will Minnie Mouse ever Marshall again? Stay tuned for next year.
