By now just about everybody knows that there have been a few changes on City Council as a result of the election. There are also a few other changes in the works. Chief Development Officer Paul Krutko, for instance, announced his resignation, effective today, in an email to his department. Krutko has been with the city for eight years, and has several important accomplishments under his belt. He oversaw the purchase of 75 acres to expand Mineta Airport, and he negotiated with eBay to ensure that they stay in the city and expand their presence here. 

The email left no clue as to where Krutko plans to go next, but only that he plans to “continue [his] career elsewhere.” He leaves the city in good hands, he says, and his “only regret is that there are still so many things left to accomplish. Mayor Reed commented that “There is no good time for someone of his caliber to leave, but no, Paul has not left us in the lurch. He is leaving on a high note.”

Strategist Kim Walesh will serve as Interim Chief Development Officer. Walesh has indicated that she is not interested in succeeding Krutko permanently.

Krutko now joins two other prominent city employees who have resigned from the city: Police Chief Rob Davis and Public Works Director Katy Allen.
