Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama and spiritual leader of millions of Tibetan Buddhists around the world, will be giving a talk this afternoon at the San Jose Convention Center. Tickets for the event, which begins at 2:00 pm, have already been sold out. The Dalai Lama will also be speaking at the San Jose State University Event Center.
The subject of his talk will be an 11th-century Buddhist text entitled, “Eight Verses of Training the Mind: Awakening the Heart of Compassion.” People familiar with the text have said that it focuses on the merit of respect and compassion for the self and for others and the way to turn obstacles into opportunities. The Dalai Lama wrote a book about this text in 2000.
