4th Annual Luna Park Chalk Festival

Description

In the tradition of the Italian madonnari street painters, participating artists will use chalk to create colorful works of art on the interior path of Backesto Park, in the heart of the Northside neighborhood. Attendees will also enjoy live entertainment by Movimiento Cosmico Aztec dancers and the music of Cuatro con Tres and the amazing accordionist Mike Zampiceni while they relax under the trees. Once again we will have arts and craft vendors where visitors can shop for unique handmade gifts, and an array of cultural foods from our local restaurants and food trucks. It's a fantastic event for the whole family!

Our featured artists will include Lacey Bryant, considered by many to be one of San Jose's most talented artists; local muralist extraordinaire Paul J. Gonzales; Cheryl and Wayne Renshaw, virtuosos from the international street painting circuit; Northside resident and middle-school art teacher Katrina Loera, creator of the mural gracing Backesto's Park's handball court; and Julio Jimenez, a gifted L.A. street painter recently chosen by Nike to create giant mural portraits of NBA players for its Los Fearless campaign.

The Luna Park Business Association, in conjunction with sponsors and an OCA grant, make it possible for pre-registered local schools to participate in this event for free. In addition, proceeds from this event will be donated to local school arts programs.
