The Bay Area grants San Jose residents the opportunity to explore beaches, lakes and hikes all within less than an hour’s drive. There are actually 28 parks in Santa Clara County totaling 48,000 acres of land, all with different hikes, animals and possibilities.
Santa Clara County Parks launches a series of activities every month to encourage residents to take time out of the city and explore the many parks and reservoirs in the area. This month alone they have a whopping 55 events taking place all over the Bay Area. These events range from educational opportunities to camping, tai chi, movie nights, hiking and even moonlight paddles on Anderson Lake County Park.
Some of the more uncommon events include how to survive in a knapsack, where a mile hike will teach you the necessities of surviving in the wilderness and the very modern and practical. The Smartphone Safety in the Outdoors event encourages the use of smartphones to discover which free apps come can in handy on a trip outdoors. Activities range from easy hikes to more advanced adventures and include age guidelines for others. Most of the events are family friendly to encourage parents and siblings to grow closer together while also developing healthy habits.
