San Jose Marriott launched “Summer of Soccer” last week at Tanq bar to celebrate the Copa America tournament while helping local students attend college.
In honor of the 100th anniversary of the soccer tournament for the Americas, Tanq is offering new menu items like garlic shrimp and ancho chilli wings, while exotic drinks include the Yerba Mate Pisco Sour, the Chile-hattan, Columbia Fresca and the Jamaican Glow.
“San Jose has become home to many of the world’s most exciting sporting events,” says John Southwell, general manager of the San Jose Marriott. “As we host these international soccer tournaments, we want to support the athletic and academic development of young people in our own community.”
For every new menu item sold, San Jose Marriott will donate $1 to the REACH Youth Foundation, a branch of the San Jose Sports Authority. For more than 20 years REACH (Recognizing Excellence Adversity Courage and Hard Work) has provided college funds to high school students in Santa Clara County who excel in both academics and sports while overcoming obstacles. In July, Tanq will introduce another new menu to benefit the REACH program in honor of the MLS All-Star Game taking place July 26 at Avaya Stadium.
