It’s another “Hello, Goodbye” situation for Sir Paul McCartney. Hello to the new 49ers’ stadium in Santa Clara, or goodbye to old Candlestick Park?

McCartney was personally invited by San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee to play the final concert at Candlestick last year, SFGate reports. This all seemed well and good until McCartney’s people revealed that they were in talks with the Niners for an opening concert at the new Levi’s Stadium in August. This is just the latest in a series of disagreements between San Francisco and the Niners since the team decided to move to the South Bay in 2006.

While it would be nice for McCartney to close Candlestick–as it was the last paid concert the Beatles performed in 1966–his coming to Levi’s would signal that the South Bay has another huge venue for world class performers.

If McCartney ends up saying hello, the South Bay can look forward to Arcade Fire at the Shoreline, Sir Paul at Levi’s and Justin Timberlake at the SAP Center, all within the space of a couple weeks this summer.
