Local real estate agent Holly Barr moved to Willow Glen several years ago and fell in love with it immediately. On the side, Barr and her husband, Greg, run Willow Glen’s unofficial online community, Willow Glen Charm. On the site, the couple posts a calendar of events and information about the area’s history, clubs, leaders, schools and other helpful information.
We caught up with Holly to talk about the quaint, bustling neighborhood she calls home and her website:
Name: Holly Barr
City/neighborhood: Willow Glen, San Jose
What do you do for work? Sereno Group.
What brought you to Willow Glen? The charm, the beautiful homes, tree-lined streets, the families outside, the walk to downtown, the block parties, the piece of Americana.
What do you like most about your neighborhood? All of the above
Where would you have your last meal on earth? Lobster, bacon, root beer and those killer horrible-for-you rolls from Red Lobster. Oh, and some really good high quality Straus ice cream.
Where is a cool place to take an out-of-towner? Hmmm, depends on what they like. I would offer San Pedro Square as an option or a local Willow Glen location of Blue Water (a new restaurant) for the cool shark that’s there.
Name your favorite hole-in-the-wall place to grub? Flower and Flour.
Where’s the best place to get a cup of coffee in San Jose? I’m a Starbucks girl. Where they know my name and it tastes like candy!
Name your favorite upcoming San Jose event: I am thinking of putting together a charming gratitude wreath where people write what they are grateful for and stick it on a large paper wreath. Or maybe make a gratitude graph. The events are numerous. There’s a pet parade this weekend with pets in costume. Very cute.
Tell us your number one local boutique: Grace on the Avenue and Ibiss.
Where do you get beautified? Nails by Tammy.
Name your favorite place to catch up with friends: Crepevine.
Name three things every local should do this fall in San Jose: One: notice our leaves are changing and are stunning. Two: be grateful for what you have. Three: I have to look at a calendar and see what the options are.
Finish this sentence: Willow Glen is … Willow Glen is charming.
