If teams are to be judged on the appearance of their basketball court, the San Jose State Spartans are going to kill it this year. A new court design by Idaho-based USI Flooring features two classic Spartan helmets on opposite sides of the court while five menacing, shielded soldiers stand ready at midcourt.

Assuming the court-infused Spartans will be facing the scores table, the message basically tells other teams’ substitutes to think twice.
Or something like that.

According to the school’s athletic department, the process of installing the new hardwood took three months after receiving final approval.

The Lady Spartans will be first to officially play on the new floor, when they face William Jessup for an Oct. 29 exhibition. The men’s team will play at home for the first time a week later on Nov. 4, when Cal State Monterey Bay faces the Spartans in a preseason game.

Last year, the men’s team went 9-20 overall, while the women’s team finished 11-19.
