San Pedro Square Market is the best thing to happen to downtown San Jose since, well, ever. The collection of restaurants, shops, bars and outdoor space gives downtown a focal point at long last.

The best part is all the food. I’m hoping the Market raises the profile of downtown’s food scene throughout the city’s center. To help get things rolling, Dishcrawl is hosting Dishwalk on May 12 (2-5pm), a culinary tour of San Pedro Square Market and downtown at large.

For $29 ($39 the day of the event), participants can sample 10 dishes from different restaurants. There will also be $2-$4 drink specials at participating restaurants, which include Little Chef Counter, VIno Vino, La Pinata, Sonoma Chicken, Sabor, Myth, Firehouse, On a Roll and Food Social’s Halal. The self-guided tour will include musical entertainment along the way with musicians Paul Kimball (Careless Hearts), Kaila D’Sa, Vivienne Castillo and Nate Castillo. Email [email protected] with questions.

Meanwhile, Saratoga’s Bonnets & Blooms wine stroll on May 12 will feature 22 boutique wineries, many of them from Santa Cruz, including Burrell School, Loma Prieta, Poetic Cellars, Dancing Creek, Pelican Ranch and Rexford Wines all pouring at shops and restaurants with live music to accompany. Specialty foods will be on sale from local producers like Tabitha’s Friend in Cheeses Jam Company and Delk’s Bees (infused honeys from Aptos). Wines from participating wineries will be on sale as well.

Tickets are $40 in advance and $45 day of the event. Go on the web to saratogachamber.org or call 408.867.0753 for information.
