If smoking and obesity statistics are the most accurate measurements of health, San Jose comes ranks best among all cities in the US.
A recent article by The Atlantic used a “a Metro Health Index” based on those two factors, and the results put San Jose at the top. Coastal areas in California, in general, are doing better than most other major cities in the country. Santa Cruz came in second and would have scored higher if the rate of smoking were lower.
This might not come as a surprise to some, as The Daily Beast announced in an article last year that San Jose is the best place to live if one wants to grow to a ripe old age. Living healthy and living long appear to go hand in hand.
