It all began with a tweet by the CBS “What’s Trending?” Twitter feed on Friday afternoon. For a few brief moments, the world was led to believe that Steve Jobs is dead. A short time later, “What’s Trending?” removed the tweet and issued an oddly worded retraction, “Apologies- reports of Steve Job’s death completely unconfirmed. Live on.”
Unconfirmed? The retraction is almost as troubling as the original tweet. Since then, CBS news took the initiative by cutting its ties to the “What’s Trending?” show, produced by the Disrupt Group and Shira Lazar Productions. They have had a busy weekend, issuing apologies and trying to undo the damage.
