Pierluigi Oliverio
District 6
Born: December 1969
Pierluigi Oliverio writes a weekly column for San Jose Inside and is a city councilmember for San Jose’s District 6. He was elected to the council in June 2007. Before joining the council, Oliverio worked in the semiconductor and software industry for 15 years.
A graduate of Willow Glen High School, Oliverio went on to receive multiple degrees from San Jose State University as well as a teaching credential.
He is known as an advocate for open government and outsourcing more city work to the private industry to reduce costs. In 2009, with the number of medical marijuana collectives in San Jose growing beyond the city’s control, Oliverio was the first councilmember to suggest taxing collectives to provide the city with new revenue.
