Farmville has been a successful game based on farming. Weeds has been a hit TV show based on the cultivation and sale of pot. In hindsight, it seems inevitable that the twain should meet.
A new game, “Weeds Social Club,” allows players to grow, buy, and sell a number of different strains of marijuana for virtual cash, which they can use to buy everything from bongs to flat-screen TVs. Players will even receive tips from Andy Botwin, a character voiced by Weeds star Justin Kirk.
Businessweek describes the game as the inevitable “new frontier” for TV and films attempting to solidify a fan base and merchandize their shows. Ecko Code, which created the game, is also planning games centered around other hit TV series such as Dexter and The Borgias.
