A medical marijuana dispensary went up in flames for the second time in four months Friday morning, this time spreading to a neighboring house and leaving three adults and one child displaced from their home.

The blaze started at 450 Drake St. at the cannabis dispensary Herb Appeal, fire Capt. Debbie Ward said. Firefighters responded at 2:48 a.m. but the flames had completely engulfed the house, causing an estimated half million dollars in damage.

“It’s completely gone,” Ward said. “It has to be demolished.”

The first fire of this year at Herb Appeal happened on Jan. 12, and there was speculation it could have been caused by arson. The fire appeared to have started on the porch. An investigation was launched at the time, Ward said, but it is still not complete.

A second investigation is now underway after Friday’s fire, which spread to the house next door at 452 Drake St. The house fire started in the attic and has made the home uninhabitable, Ward said.

The house suffered $50,000 in structural damage and also caused about $10,000 in damage to contents of the home, Ward said.

The flames were knocked down by 3:34 a.m. and no one was injured in the blaze.
