Jose Garcia, 17, was shot on Saturday night in South San Jose. Police say that the shooting was gang-related. The perpetrators, also teens, fled the scene in a van but were arrested fifteen minutes after the incident occurred. One suspect, Cristian Vargas Rivera, 18, is being held in Santa Clara County Jail without bail. The names of the other two suspects have not been released because they are minors. The two are being held in Juvenile Hall.
Garcia was taken to hospital and is expected to survive.
The Police Officers Association released a minute-by-minute account of the police response to the shooting Monday night to bolster its case that no officers should be laid off due to budget cuts.
