Tuesday:
Lunch Forum with Warren Slocum
Known as the county’s highest ranking geek elected official, Warren Slocum is San Mateo County’s Chief Elections Officer. In a talk entitled “Reshaping Governance in the Information Age,” Slocum will describe his innovations and thoughts on voting and election reform, electronic petitions with digital signatures, and Internet voting. Perhaps the next president will be elected via “likes” on Facebook.

Wednesday:
Fight the Quiet
It’s not just the hard-hitting guitar crunches and redemptive drums that make Fight The Quiet worth checking out; it’s the choir-boy vocals of the lead singer Nathan James. He seems comfortable in his register, not as high as Coheed and Cambria’s Claudio Sanchez but still a tad more angelic than Muse’s Matthew Bellamy. Stephen Short, a two-time Grammy-winning producer, helped to craft their latest album so expect to hear some of their cuts as background music on all those educational programs that MTV shows now instead of music videos.

Thursday:
Angels in America: Millennium Approaches
The Pulitzer and Tony award-winning play receives a Bus Barn Theatre engagement thanks to the Los Altos First Stages youth mentoring program. Revati Dhomse, a senior at Monta Vista High School, was selected to direct a limited run of Tony Kushner’s powerful play about society coming to terms with the AIDS epidemic.

Friday:
The Oversocial Mofo Revue
San Jose’s monthly variety show and poetry slam is back. Laura Yes Yes from Chicago will speak the truth, San Jose’s Emerald Hill will rock the house, and Laika Fox from Oakland will seduce the audience in a burlesque performance with a twist. This Friday’s show at Anno Domini in downtown San Jose is a special fundraiser to send San Jose’s winning female slam poet to the 2011 Women of the World Poetry Slam in Ohio. Raffle prizes include a TiVo and a lifetime TiVo subscription.
