There are 99 medical marijuana cooperatives in San Jose, and not one of them is legal, at least according to City Council. It’s not the marijuana itself, but the fact that there is, as yet, no zoning ordinance in place. All of that may change today during a special City Council meeting on the issue.
The meeting comes in the wake of a series of raids on medical marijuana collectives and a protest by card carrying marijuana users on Friday night. Dave Hodges of the San Jose Cannabis Buyers Collective called the smoke-in protest “100 percent legal.” City Councilmember Pete Constant disagreed, and said, “A lot of people think things are legal that are not legal.”
