Some Bay Area students are worried about how they will pay their tuition now that the UC Board of Regents voted to approve another hike for the coming school terms. Luckily for SJSU, they are not part of the UC system, so tuition hikes aren’t on the table yet. Even luckier for them is the $90 million makeover underway at the Student Union building. Apart from a new wing and a complete retrofitting, the building will add a variety of new services, including a print shop and computer center. For those who just want to sit back and relax, there will also be a coffee shop and even a food court. The project is expected to be completed in 2013.
SJSU Spokeswoman Pat Lopes Harris was quick to point out that the funding for the makeover does not come from sources that could be used for academic purposes. In other words, it’s a win-win for the students.
