Some people like to run with an iPod. Then there is the Rock ‘N’ Roll San Jose Half Marathon, where an iPod is completely unnecessary. There are live bands playing all along the 13.1 mile route, and the event is just as much a music festival as it is a sporting event.
This year, the event opens with the Independence H.S. Marching Band, and ends with a gala concert at Cesar Chavez Square featuring Blues Traveler. There will be everything from funk to acoustic to adult contemporary along the way.
The controversy-ridden quasi-public organization Team San Jose has signed a three-year contract to continue to host the popular event. CEO Dan Fenton explains that the half marathon provides a big boost for the economy, and is expected to bring in $42 million.
This year’s marathon is scheduled for October 3. Running and dancing shoes encouraged.
