Back in the UK punk scene of the late '70s, there were the Sex Pistols and the Clash, and then there was everybody else. Most American kids never even got to hear these second-tier punkers until compilations like Punk and Disorderly made it over here. Ironically, three decades later, the Pistols and the Clash are long gone, but you can't hock a loogie around here without gobbing on one of those other bands - they're still playing their anthems from the glory days, right here in our backyard. The Business, the Damned, Stiff Little Fingers and the Buzzcocks have all played through, and now here comes U.K. Subs, led by tireless founder Charlie Harper, who never had an anthem, really ("Warhead," maybe?), but who gets extra points for taking up the punk cause at least a year earlier than most. - Steve Palopoli sanjose.comMore Info
