This summer the San Jose Youth Symphony (SJYS) will be the very first Bay Area youth orchestra to tour South America. The Philharmonic Orchestra, made up of the most accomplished musicians in the Bay Area, will be performing in five South American cities, including Santiago, Chile; Cordoba, Mendoza, Rosario and Buenos Aires, Argentina. The San Jose community has the opportunity to hear the tour program and to support and bid them farewell at Adios Amigos! A Bon Voyage Concert on Saturday evening, June 20, 2009, at the Mexican Heritage Plaza Theatre.

The orchestra will perform Saint-Saens’ Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso, Op. 28 and Sarasate/Bizet’s Carmen Fantasy with Axel Strauss, a distinguished violin soloist, winner of the Naumburg Violin Award, and Professor of Violin at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. The orchestra will end the concert with Tchaikovsky’s 5th Symphony in E minor.
