In 1997, Latyrx's debut Latyrx (The Album) changed the very idea of what Bay Area underground hip-hop could sound like. Fifteen years later, Lyrics Born and Lateef the Truthspeaker are still changing minds and waking up ears. Lateef guested on Lyrics Born's two-step and boogie mixtape, Variety Show Season Five, earlier this year. But it's even better than that—Latryx is back, and in fact the East Bay duo has been recording some of their new album right here in San Jose. They've chosen the South Bay's own Bangerz to produce a few of the tracks, and they'll have the Bangerz' Cutso opening when they perform at Pagoda. - Steve Palopoli sanjose.com
