Kung Pao Kosher Comedy

This year’s shows take place on Dec 24-26 (six shows over the course of 3 days with 2 shows a day) at The New Asia Restaurant in San Francisco’s Chinatown. Kung Pao answers the age-old question, “What are Jews supposed to do on Christmas?” The Kung Pao audience is varied but has one thing in common: the love of intelligent comedy and the search for an alternative Christmas event. Some people have attended for all 21 years; others are newcomers or out-of-towners who stumble upon this unique event which has become a tradition, an institution, in San Francisco. Tradition!

Kung Pao features Yiddish proverbs in its fortune cookies, including: With one tuchus, you can’t dance at two weddings and A goat may have a beard, but that doesn’t make it a rabbi.

Attendees sit family-style at either an 5pm Dinner Show or an 8:30pm Cocktail Show at tables of 10 named (in ABC order): Barbra Streisand, Borscht Belt, Bubbelah, Catskills, Chicken Soup, Chopped Liver, Chutzpah, Fanny Brice, Farklempt, Gefilte Fish, Gilda Radner, Guilt, Hava Nagilah, Henny Youngman, Jackie Mason, Joan Rivers, Kasha Varnishkas, Kvetch, Latkes, Lenny Bruce, Mah Jongg, Manischewitz, Marx Brothers, Matzoh Brei, Meshugganah, Milton Berle, New York Bagel, Nosh, Rodney Dangerfield, Sammy Davis Jr, Schmooze, Seinfeld, Totie Fields, Treyf, Woody Allen, and Yenta.

*Jeremy Hotz (Best Male Stand Up: Canada, Best International Performer: Sydney Comedy Festival) headlines
*Ophira Eisenberg (Host of NPR’s trivia comedy show, Ask Me Another)
*FOURTEEN year old New York comic, Simon Cadel, who began performing in NYC at age 11. He performs all over NYC (around his homework schedule).
*Lisa Geduldig (Yours Truly) as the MC
